Nordex has been awarded a turbine delivery order for a 111MW wind power project in South Africa.
The South African subsidiary of the German wind equipment manufacturer has won the deal through competitive bidding.
Nordex Management Board member Lars Bondo Krogsgaard said: "The establishment of a local company in 2012 marked an important strategic step forward in our efforts to position ourselves in the emerging South African market. In this way, we are able to handle local projects more swiftly and competently."
The name of the project and its developer have not been disclosed by Nordex, however, the delivery order may be for Enel Green Power’s Gibson Bay wind farm, reports ReNews.
Nordex will deliver 37 of its N117/3000 turbine models for the renewable project, as part of the order.
The wind project is located in the southern part of the country. It will be the first to be equipped with Generation Delta turbines, Nordex said.
Once operational, the facility is expected to supply 424 GWh of wind power.
Along with this, three more projects were awarded to Nordex in the first round of bidding in South Africa, which includes 100MW Dorper project, 80MW Kouga project and a 134.4MW Amakhala project.
The four projects raise the capacity of the power equipment manufacturer by 425.4MW, which accounts for 20% of the total 1,983MW distributed by the country through three initial auctions.
