Swedish energy firm O2 has sold its third wind turbine farm, to be built at Rämsberget, to IKEA Group.
Located in the municipality of Malung-Sälen in Dalarna, the wind farm will feature seven Vestas V112s, 3MW turbines, and have a tower height of 119m and a rotor diameter of 112m.
O2 has secured permission to construct 11 wind turbines at Rämsberget, but due to the limitations of the electricity grid, only seven turbines will be built for the time being.
After completion, the wind farm is anticipated to generate 72GWh of energy per year, equal to the annual electricity consumption of 16,000 households.
The facility is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 57,600 tonnes per year.
Construction work on the wind farm is scheduled to begin in the coming months, and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2014.
IKEA Sweden CEO Håkan Svedman commented on the deal: "The investment will not only create green jobs and contribute to a more carbon-lean society, it will also give us control of our electricity costs."
O2 is also in the process of constructing a 30-turbine wind farm at Glötesvålen in Härjedalen, which is expected to be completed in 2015.
The IKEA Group will allocate €1.5bn towards renewable energy, primarily in wind and solar power, up to 2015.
The company currently has about 137 wind turbines under construction or in operation globally and more than 300,000 solar panels.
