Northwest Ohio Wind Energy, a subsidiary of Trishe Wind Energy Holdings, has received approval from the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) to develop a 100MW wind power project in Blue Creek and Latty townships in Paulding County, US.
To be built on 12,750 acres of leased land near the villages of Haviland and Grover Hill, the project calls for the construction of up to 59 turbines, each with a capacity of 1.7MW to 2MW, generating an annual energy production of around 370,000MWh.
The project will also include the development of the associated infrastructure including access roads, underground collection lines, voltage step-up facility, construction staging area, operations and maintenance (O&M) facilities and substations.
The project will be interconnected to an existing American Electric Power (AEP) transmission line at the Haviland 138kV substation and the interconnection will be secured through an agreement with PJM Interconnection.
The company has installed three temporary 197ft meteorological towers to monitor wind resources during the operation of the wind farm.
Having conducted principal environmental and socioeconomic studies, the company claims that impacts due to construction and operations are expected to be minimal.
The OPSB has approved the project with 40 conditions, which will ensure the safe construction and operation of the facility and reduce impacts to local residents and ecological resources.
The company formally sought a certificate of environmental compatibility and public need from the OPSB on 24 May 2013.
The local populace testified about the proposed project during a public hearing on 22 October 2013 at the Wayne Trace Junior-Senior High School in Haviland. The company, the OPSB staff, and the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation finally reached an agreement on 28 October 2013.
