A Japan-based consortium has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC) by Taipower to construct two power generating units of 800MW each, in Taiwan.
The consortium is formed of Toshiba, IHI, CTCI and Sumitomo.
The group will also construct power block buildings and facilities at the existing Talin Thermal Power Plant located in Kaohsiung District in southern Taiwan.
The new units are expected to replace the existing facilities at the plant in line with Taipower’s long-term power development programme.
CTCI Corporation will be responsible for supplying the balance of plant and executing civil and installation work for boilers and the balance of plant.
Sumitomo Corporation will undertake civil and installation work of steam turbines, generators and other auxiliary equipment to be supplied by Toshiba Corporation.
IHI will supply boilers and will be responsible for technical and commercial leadership of the consortium.
Commercial operations are anticipated to begin in 2016 for Unit 1 and 2017 for Unit 2.
