PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA) said it will begin construction works on its long-delayed 40MW geothermal power plant in West Java, Indonesia.
The firm’s subsidiary Wijaya Karya Jabar Power was awarded the contract to build and operate the plant in 2008, but the project was delayed due to financial constraints.
WIKA told Kontan Business Daily that its subsidiary was now completing a seismic survey to aid the start of drilling operations at the Gunung Mas geothermal field and would spend $150 million to develop the plant.
The firm will drill two of seven targeted wells in the first phase of development, which was expected to begin early next year.
WIKA corporate secretary Natal Argawa: "Hopefully, the drilling process will be complete in 2013. We will continue by building the power plant in the next phase. We expect the plant to start operations in 2015."
Power produced by the plant will be sold to state electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara.
