Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES Americas) has started construction on the 250MW Buffalo Dunes wind project, which will be situated south-west of Garden City, in the US state of Kansas.
The project, developed by TradeWind Energy, is jointly owned by GE Energy Financial Services, and Enel Green Power North America.
After completion, the wind project will feature 135 GE turbines, which will be capable of generating enough electricity to power 85,000 homes and avoid around 800,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per annum.
RES Americas, which is acting as the general contractor for the project, worked together with TradeWind Energy to facilitate the project’s engineering, design and construction schedule.
TradeWind Energy chief development officer Matt Gilhousen said: "Upon completion of the Buffalo Dunes Wind Project, TradeWind will have developed 750MW of operating wind generation in Kansas alone, representing over one billion dollars of investment and producing enough clean, renewable energy to meet the needs of over 250,000 homes."
GE Energy Financial Services will operate and maintain the plant after completion, while Alabama Power Company has agreed to buy most of the electricity generated from the project for 20 years.
RES Americas chief operating officer Andrew Fowler said: "Kansas is a leader in wind energy, and the continued development of its renewable energy resources will bring additional capital investment, jobs and tax revenue to the state."
In 2012, RES Americas completed the 227.5MW Crossroads wind farm in the US state of Oklahoma.
