Russia and Argentina further energy co-operation through multiple deals

A series of framework agreements has been signed between Russia and Argentina, aimed at deepening energy co-operation between the countries.

A series of framework agreements has been signed between Russia and Argentina, aimed at deepening energy co-operation between the countries.

TVEL Fuel Company, subsidiary of Russian nuclear energy entity Rosatom, has signed two memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina and state-owned construction company Invap, to promote nuclear power co-operation in the form of joint initiatives.

The deals entail deliveries of low-enriched uranium fuel and its components for nuclear research studies and setting up of power reactors in Argentina.

TVEL is also expected to supply zirconium components of the nuclear fuel cycle and for research and development initiatives.

Rosatom has further signed a separate construction agreement for a nuclear energy facility in Argentina, which will have a generation capacity of 1200MW.

The proposed plant will feature the Russian version of pressurised water reactor (PWR) termed as ‘VVER’.

JSC Rusatom Overseas and the Argentinian nuclear power developer Nucleoeléctrica Argentina have also signed a preliminary project development agreement for nuclear power plant construction in Argentina.

Exploration, production and transmission of hydrocarbons in Argentina and third countries will also be jointly assessed by Russian Gazprom and Argentine National Petroleum Company YPF.

Inter RAO Group from Russia has agreed to an implementation protocol for Chihuido-1 hydropower plant in Argentina.
