Shaw Group has won a three-year contract from Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corp, to provide maintenance services to its nuclear power plant located in Kansas, US.

The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

Shaw president of plant services division, Ron McCall, said nuclear maintenance work has prepared the company to help Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corp advance its goals of producing safe, reliable, cost-competitive electricity.

"Operating a single-unit nuclear power plant can present unique challenges, and we are confident that Shaw’s experience serving other single-unit plants will benefit Wolf Creek and their customers," said McCall.

Electricity generated from the Wolf Creek Generating Station is sufficient to provide power to about 800,000 households in Kansas and Missouri.

The plant started operations in 1985 and is jointly owned by Kansas Gas & Electric Company and Kansas City Power and Light, which each own a 47% interest, while Kansas Electric Power Cooperative owns the remaining 6% stake.
