Siemens Energy has received an order for 50 wind turbines for the 115MW El Arrayan wind power plant located on the coast of the Coquimbo IV Region in Chile.
The contract includes the delivery, installation and commissioning of the SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines, together with a five-year service and maintenance contract.
Siemens CEO of the wind power Americas business unit, Mark Albenze, said: "The El Arrayan wind power plant is the company’s first project in South America outside Brazil and marks its entry into the Chilean market."
Installation of the project is scheduled to begin in 2013, with commissioning of the wind farm planned for early 2014.
A joint venture between Pattern Energy and AEI will develop the wind farm.
On completion, the project will provide clean and renewable energy to power the equivalent of 200,000 local households.
Around 70% of the energy generated by the wind power plant will be dedicated to supply power to Minera Los Pelambres, one of the largest mineral producers in the Chile.
