Siemens Energy has secured a $400m contract to supply H-class gas turbines for the 829MW Liberty combined cycle power plant in Pennsylvania, US.
The order was placed by a subsidiary of Panda Power Funds, which owns the plant.
According to the contract, Siemens will supply two power islands for the plant, including long-term maintenance service for the main components.
To be built in the Asylum Township in Bradford county, the plant will generate enough energy for around one million homes.
The power plant will feature two power plant units, which will be built as single-shaft configurations, each with an H-class gas turbine as the main component.
Each power island will feature one SGT6-8000H gas turbine, one SST6-900 steam turbine, one water-cooled SGen-2000H generator and one heat recovery steam generator, along with the overall electrical system and the SPPA-T3000 I&C system.
Gemma-Lane will construct the power plant, which is expected to open in 2016, while Siemens will fabricate the gas turbines and generators at its Charlotte plant in North Carolina.
Siemens Energy fossil power generation division CEO Roland Fischer said that US is now the leading purchaser of the company’s H-class gas turbines – with almost half of all orders globally.
"Flexible and highly efficient combined-cycle power plants help the USA with the integration of renewable energy sources and make a distinct contribution to affordable, reliable and eco-friendly power generation," Fischer said.
Panda Power Funds president and senior partner Todd Carter said Siemens continues to provide the best solutions for the company’s power generation projects.
"This power plant offers world-class performance and reliability. Due to its high efficiency, it will also be very economical to operate. These are critical features as we provide electricity for Pennsylvanians for decades to come," Carter said.
Panda Power Funds has recently unveiled its plans to build, own and operate an 859MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant project in Maryland, US.
