SMA Service

SMA Canada has won a contract to provide solar inverters and operations and maintenance services for the 100MWac Grand Renewable Solar project in Haldimand County, Ontario.

Under the contract, SMA Service will be responsible for the operational management of the utility-scale, ground-mounted PV system for the next decade.

Early next year, the company will start delivery of 130 Sunny Central 800CP-US inverters to the plant, which is being financed by Connor Clark & Lunn Infrastructure and developed by Samsung Renewable Energy.

SMA claims the Sunny Central CP-US line of inverters provides 98.7% efficiencies as well as grid management functions to address utility requirements. In addition to this, the company’s intelligent temperature management system OptiCool enables outdoor operation in a variety of challenging climates.

SMA Service’s proactive plan with additional support services has been selected by the owner Grand Renewable Solar for the project.

SMA recently unveiled plant-wide O&M services that are available in three plans: preventative, proactive and performance, which will increase performance ratios, protect power production and simplify long-term planning.

Once operational in 2015, the plant, which is claimed to be one of the largest of its kind in Canada, will generate around 165,000MWh of electricity annually, enough to power approximately 13,750 homes.

In October 2013, Canadian Solar Solutions started construction on the project, which will feature 440,000 Canadian Solar CS6X high-performance modules, 100 1MW transformers and 200 inverters of 500kW each; a transformer substation; and associated ancillary equipment, systems and technologies.

In June 2013, Canadian Solar received an EPC contract from Grand Renewable Solar, an arm of Samsung Renewable Energy, to construct the plant, which is part of the 250MW Grand Renewable Energy Park being built and operated by Samsung C&T.

The renewable energy park, which will also feature the 150MW Grand Renewable wind project, had received renewable energy approval from the Ministry of the Environment on 15 June 2012.
