The UK National Grid has announced that it will invest £6m in modernising the overhead power line that runs across the Wirral from Birkenhead to Capenhurst.
The power line is part of the network of overhead lines, underground cables and substations that carry high voltage electricity across the UK.
The project, which was earlier halted due to a cable damage by another utility, will replace the fittings that connect the wires to 47 pylons.
Work on the project is expected to be complete by the end of 2013.
National Grid has been working with local authorities, the Environment Agency and Natural England to plan the work on the power line.
National Grid project engineer Chris Card said, "This investment of nearly £6m will help ensure we can all continue to rely on having energy at our fingertips."
The transmission network operator said it will invest in the Wirral area in 2013 and also in the future.
National Grid is currently working in partnership with Scottish Power to construct the Western Link cable, which follows a similar route to the overhead power line in some areas.
The cable is part of a £1bn project, which intends to bring renewable energy from Scotland to homes and businesses in England and Wales.
