UK’s public-private partnership Nuclear South West has been launched at the World Nuclear Exhibition (WNE) in Paris, France.

The partnership helps strengthen the industry with innovations, skills, and £50bn of supply chain opportunities. It has the highest number of licensed sites in the UK and involves 180 organisations, as well as a strong nuclear defence industry.

Inward investment manager Julia Stuckey said: “The Nuclear South West presence within the WNE UK Pavilion was the first promotion of the cluster on the international stage. It was extremely well-received by the industry.

“We generated over 600 contacts during the event, including from France, Japan, China, Korea, and Spain and will follow-up to encourage investment and reinforce the region’s supply-chain opportunities and nuclear expertise.”

"Nuclear South West helps strengthen the industry with innovations, skills, and £50bn of supply chain opportunities."

The partnership has promoted the region’s extensive nuclear capability and commercial opportunities to eligible inward investors and companies looking for South West partnerships.

South West Nuclear's Hub University of Bristol engagement manager Jamie Townes said: “We made some important connections in Paris, with potential partners from around the world who are keen to access the significant capability in the region for science, engineering, and innovation, to apply it to today’s nuclear generation and decommissioning, and to design and apply to the nuclear energy systems of tomorrow.”

The cluster will have four decommissioning sites and two new nuclear power stations at Hinkley and Oldbury.

It comprises established and growing nuclear-related businesses, research institutions, and training providers supported by local, regional, and national government partners. These will work in collaboration to optimise sizeable and diverse nuclear industry opportunities over the coming 20 years.

The partnership aims at stimulating skills programmes, research, and development innovation, as well as international trade and investment.
