Denmark-based Vestas has received a 90MW wind turbine contract from Compañia Forestal Uruguaya for the Pintado wind power plant in Uruguay.
Under the contract, Vestas will install and commission 30 of its V112-3.0MW wind turbines in Pintado, Florida.
The contract also requires the Danish wind turbine manufacturer to provide its VestasOnline Business SCADA system, which allows for the monitoring and control of individual turbines, groups of turbines and an entire plant.
In addition, the order includes a 15-year Active Management Output (AOM) 5000 service agreement.
Delivery of the turbines is due to start in the third quarter of 2013, while the wind power plant is expected to commence operations in the second quarter of 2014.
Vestas Wind Systems chief sales officer Juan Araluce said the contract will allow the firm to build on its presence in Uruguay, where it has installed almost 80% of the country’s total capacity.
"This 90MW project will be largely contributing to Uruguay’s goal to have 1,000MW of new wind energy capacity by 2015," Araluce added.
Compañia Forestal Uruguaya president Juan Otegui said that after long negotiations, the company has concluded that Vestas is the reliable partner for the project in Pintado.
"The V112-3.0 MW turbine allows an efficient energy production and gives us justified return on investment," Otegui added.
