Denmark-based Vestas has received a 94MW wind turbine contract from Aurora Wind Power, a joint venture between GDF SUEZ, Investec and Kagiso Investment, for the West Coast One project in South Africa.
Under the contract, Vestas will install and commission 47 of its V90-2.0MW turbines for the wind power plant at the Western Cape.
The contract also requires the Danish wind turbine manufacturer to provide its VestasOnline Business SCADA system.
Delivery of the turbines is planned to start in the third quarter of 2014, while the wind power plant is expected to commence operations by May 2015.
GDF SUEZ Energy South Asia, Middle East and Africa business development head Jean Rappe said: "GDF SUEZ has further renewable energy projects under development in South Africa as the implementation of renewable technologies helps to save energy while minimising CO2 emissions."
The West Coast One project forms part of South Africa Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement programme, which involves the construction of eight photovoltaic plants and seven wind farms.
In May, Iberdrola Ingenieria secured a $150m contract from Jasper Power Company to construct a 96MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in South Africa, under the programme.
