Wärtsilä has secured an operation and maintenance (O&M) contract from Gulf Power (GP), a subsidiary of Gulf Energy.
Under the terms of the agreement, the company will oversee full operations and maintenance services of a new power plant to be built on the Athi River, south-east of Nairobi, Kenya.
Wärtsilä Services general manager South Europe and Africa A P Singh said: "Our extensive experience and know-how in O&M, together with the efficiency and reliability of the Wärtsilä equipment, will be of tremendous value in ensuring the success of this important project."
The GPL power plant will be powered by Wärtsilä engines running on heavy fuel oil and will have an electrical output capacity of 80MW.
"The power plant is designed with high operating efficiency, low generating costs, and reliability as key criteria, and these are all areas where Wärtsilä excels," said Singh.
The plant is scheduled to be complete by September 2013.
