Matla Power Station is a 3,600MW coal fired power project. It is located in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1976 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1979.

The project is currently owned by Eskom Holdings SOC.

It is a steam turbine power plant that is used for Baseload. The fuel is procured from highveld coalfield – exxaro.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1976 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1979.

Contractors Involved

GE Power was selected as the turbine supplier for the Coal fired project. The company provided 6 units of Multi-cylinder, Impulse Reaction steam turbines, each with 600MW nameplate capacity.

GE Power supplied Hydrogen Cooled electric generator for the project.

Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises supplied steam boiler for the project.
