Description

Oskarshamn 3 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Stal-Laval Turbin and Westinghouse Electric Sweden, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,450MW reactor is operated by OKG Aktiebolag. Uniper and Fortum are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 54.5% and 45.5% respectively.

The BWR reactor generates 10,989.44GWh/annum of electricity. It features 700 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in May, 1980 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Aug, 1985.

Contractors involved

GE Power was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company provided 1 steam turbine for the project. The reactor system was supplied by Westinghouse Electric Sweden. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Framatome. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA 533).
