Scale Microgrids, a New Jersey, US-based distributed energy platform, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a 500MW portfolio of distributed solar and storage projects from Dutch clean energy developer Gutami.

The solar and storage projects are spread across US states including California and New York.

Gutami will develop the 500MW infrastructure assets.

Scale will then acquire, finance and own the portfolio, enhancing its share of community solar projects nationwide.

The portfolio will generate enough electricity to power 80,000 homes and small businesses and contribute to a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, with an estimated annual decrease of 800,000 tonnes.

Scale Microgrids CEO Ryan Goodman stated: “As we kick off 2024, we are thrilled to announce continued progress on our company’s rapid growth. This expansion of a successful relationship is central to our mission of powering the world with clean, distributed energy.

“Community solar continues to be a priority for Scale for both its inclusivity and ability to provide more options to our microgrid customers. Community solar is a great option for those who are unable to install rooftop solar because they are renters, can’t afford solar or because their property is not suited for it.”

Gutami CEO Gerben Pek stated: “We are excited to close this second deal with Scale. After our first success in New York, we were able to expand to other states.

“The fast decision-making processes by local governments combined with clear legal structures and a well-functioning legal system enables us to accelerate our growth in community solar in the US.”

In March 2023, Scale revealed plans to acquire more than 100MW of community solar projects in New York from Gutami.

The projects, all in late stages of development, will be constructed, owned and operated by Scale.
