EDP Renováveis (EDPR), via its subsidiary EDP Renováveis Brasil (EDPR Brasil) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 126MW of new wind power generation in Brazil.

The company will sell the output of the Monte Verde VI and the Boqueirao I-II onshore wind farms under a 20-year private contract. Located in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, the windfarms are expected to start operations in 2022.

EDPR has so far installed 467MW of onshore windfarms in Brazil. The latest agreement boosts the company’s PPA portfolio to 3.3GW of around 7GW of the global capacity it aims to install in the 2019-2022 period.

At present, the company has over 1GW of wind and solar projects under development, of which 200MW with start of operation expected for 2021, 400MW for 2022 and 500MW until 2023. EDPR secured long-term contracts for all the projects.

In June 2019, EDPR, through its subsidiary EDP Renewables North America secured a 20-year PPA with East Bay Community Energy to sell 100MW of solar energy and 30MW of energy storage from the Sonrisa solar park.

Situated in the state of California, the Sonrisa solar park project is anticipated to start operations in 2022. It will be EDPR’s first large scale renewable project with storage.
