The value marked a decrease of 43.4% over the previous month of $20.71bn and a drop of 13.3% when compared with the last 12-month average of $13.51bn.
In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 3.80% with 164 deals in January 2021 when compared to the last 12-month average of 158 deals.
In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $7.33bn in January 2021.
