Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 35 tenders and an 83.3% share, followed by Offshore with six tenders and a 14.3% share. Onshore Repowered stood in third place with one tender and a 2.4% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the fourth position in terms of number of tenders during Q1 2021 with a 4.6% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: ten tenders and a 24.4% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: nine tenders and a 22% share
  3. Supply & Erection: six tenders and a 14.6% share
  4. Electricity Supply: five tenders and a 12.2% share
  5. Others: five tenders and a 12.2% share
  6. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 7.3% share
  7. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three tenders and a 7.3% share.

Europe leads wind tenders activity in Q1 2021

Comparing tenders activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 20 tenders and a share of 48.8% during Q1 2021, followed by North America with 13 tenders and a 31.7% share and Middle East and Africa with six tenders and a 14.6% share.

In fourth place was Asia-Pacific with two tenders and a 4.9% share.

Wind technology tenders in Q1 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 5,958MW from six tenders
  2. Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (South Africa) and Government of South Africa: 2,600MW from one tender
  3. Ministere de l’Ecologie, du Developpement Durable des Transports et du Logement: 1,050MW capacity from one tender.
