Singapore-based solar energy company Maxeon Solar Technologies has agreed to supply almost 1GW of its bifacial panels for the Gemini solar plus storage power project.
Primergy Solar will build, own and operate the project, located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The project will be equipped with around 1.8 million shingled bifacial Performance Five UPP solar modules, which Maxeon has agreed to deliver over a four-quarter period starting in the second quarter of next year.
These solar panels have a rated efficiency of up to 21.1%.
Primergy CEO Ty Daul said: “Because of Maxeon’s high module power output and demonstrated long-term reliability, we are able to deliver the optimal energy output to our customer while minimising impacts to the desert ecosystem.
“The proximity of Maxeon’s module factory to our project site was also a key consideration, offering significant logistical benefits, reduced supply chain carbon impacts and ultimately reduced costs for energy consumers.”

By GlobalDataMaxeon will manufacture large-format G12 mono-PERC solar cells for the project in Malaysia. The module assembly works will take place in Mexicali, Mexico.
The Gemini project is due for completion by the end of 2023.
