Solect Energy and Green Street have developed two solar systems that will supply electricity to ten schools in Massachusetts, US.
These companies are members of the SunPower dealer network, which has added 6.9MW of power to the state’s existing 1,487MW installed solar capacity.

One of the projects was a 2.8MW solar car port system at Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts. This system allows the college to meet around 20% of its energy requirement by purchasing generated electricity under a power purchase agreement (PPA) arranged by SunPower.
The system was developed as part of the RPS Solar Carve-Out II incentive programme designed for the Commonwealth nations.
Solect Energy's sales partner and senior vice-president Scott Howe said: “With the addition of this SunPower solar canopy system, the college now has a grand total of 6MW of solar installed on campus and they are able to reinvest savings earned from the solar systems into areas of need such as student scholarships, maintenance, and campus upkeep.”
A second project was developed by Green Street. It involved a 4.1MWSunPower Helix roof system at Ajax United Drive complex in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

By GlobalDataGreen Street will own the offsite solarpower system in addition to the associated renewable energy credits. Attleboro Public Schools will buy the power produced by the system through a PPA, saving an estimated $3m over the next two decades.
Using energy from the system, five elementary schools, three middle schools, and one high school will be able to meet around 75% of their electricity needs.
