Electric utility company Iberdrola is set to construct a new 200MW Montague windpower farm in Oregon to supply electricity to California technology company Apple for the next 20 years.

Iberdrola's US subsidiary Avangrid Renewables and Apple's energy subsidiary Apple Energy signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), which will see Iberdrola owning and operating the facility, divesting electricity produced to Apple.

To be built in Gilliam County in Oregon, the approximately $300m Montague windpower facility is expected to begin construction next year and will be commissioned by 2020.

"The project will add to a fleet of flagship windfarms already implemented by Iberdola across the US."

The project will add to a fleet of flagship windfarms already implemented by Iberdola across the US, including the Amazon farm in North Carolina, the Leaning Jupiter project in Oregon, and the Jupiter Canyon facility in Washington.

The Amazon windpower facility supplies clean electricity to online retailer Amazon, while the Leaning Jupiter and Jupiter Canyon projects provide power to Nike.

The strategic location of the Montague windfarm will facilitate new synergies once operational. Since late 2015, the company has been operating in the US through its subsidiary Avangrid, formed by the merger of Iberdrola US and UIL.
