German engineering company Siemens has won an order to deliver, deploy, and commission 50 onshore direct drive SWT-3.2-113 turbines at Tellenes in Norway.

With a rotor diameter of 113m, the 3.2MW wind turbines will be installed in Rogaland south of Stavanger. After installation, Tellenes will be able to generate enough clean energy to meet the annual consumption of 30,000 Norwegian families.

Siemens’ windpower and renewables division onshore CEO Thomas Richterich said: "Technology companies such as Google are increasingly covering their rising energy demands with clean windpower.

"We are proud to be part of this development with our direct drive technology. Tellenes will also be one of the largest onshore wind projects in Norway."

With construction expected to commence this month, the new onshore project is expected to be fully operational late next year.
