South Korean energy storage system manufacturer Samsung SDI will commence operations in China to produce photovoltaic (PV) paste.
Operations are scheduled to commence in June this year at the Wuxi Plant, which is located in Jiangsu Province.
The paste is applied in a thin checkerboard-shaped layer on the surface of a solar cell and helps convert PV energy to electricity. It serves as an electrode material, determining the amount of solar energy received and converted by a cell.
Samsung SDI aims begin operations at 40t a month and eventually increase the production scale to 100t.
The company expects to expand its target markets to the Southeast Asian countries, which are currently emerging as new PV markets, including Malaysia, Thailand, and India.
Samsung SDI’s electronic materials business division vice-president Song Chang Lyong said: “We have improved market responsiveness by starting Wuxi Plant operations and releasing new products that are applied to high-efficiency solar cells.
