UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has chosen French nuclear power and renewable energy company Areva to be part of its research and development (R&D) framework contract for a Direct Research Portfolio (DRP).
As a part of NDA’s strategic research programme, the DRP will conduct research in a bid to create innovations across several NDA sites. This will nurture expertise and support the authority’s strategy in nuclear decommissioning.
Areva’s back end business group international operations vice-president Arnaud Gay said: "Based on Areva’s extensive experience in managing decommissioning projects in both France and the UK, our company is uniquely positioned as a key supplier and partner to the country’s nuclear industry.
"We will continue working with our UK supply chain, comprised primarily of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), to provide our in-depth knowledge of nuclear materials and spent fuels to further develop this expertise in the UK."
As one of the consortia chosen for work in the area of spent fuels and nuclear materials, Areva will work in close collaboration with its suppliers NSG Consultancy, locally-based SME MDecon, and Quintessa, as well as Liverpool and Sheffield universities.
Headquartered in Paris La Defense, the company operates in every nuclear sector.
