Solar equipment producer JinkoSolar has won rights to develop and build three solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totalling 188MW in Mexico, under the country’s first electricity auction.

The auction is in line with the Mexican Government’s plan to invest $14bn to add renewable power capacity of 6GW between 2015 and 2018.

The company will build two solar power generating facilities in Yucatán and one in Jalisco.

All three solar PV plants will enter service by mid-2018. The projects will generate more than 500GW hours of clean electricity in total every year, while reducing CO2 emissions by around 200,000t.

The solar power generated will be sold to Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) under a 15-year power purchase agreement.

CFE will also receive clean energy certificates for a period of 20 years.
