Enel has commenced construction on a 158MW solar park in Bahia, Brazil, which will be built at a cost of $175m.

The solar park includes 80MW Bom Jesus da Lapa and 78MW Lapa facilities that will generate nearly 340GWh of clean electricity in total every year.

Electricity generated at the plant will be enough to power more than 166,000 Brazilian households, while avoiding the emission of more than 198,000t of CO2 into the atmosphere.

It will be sold to Brazilian Chamber of Commercialisation of Electric Energy (Câmara de Comercialização da Energia Elétrica or CCEE), under 20-year supply contracts.

The project is scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2017.

Enel Green Power Brasil Participações (EGPB), the Brazilian subsidiary of Enel, is also building the 254MW Ituverava facility, which is said to be Enel’s largest solar plant currently under construction, and the 180MW Delfina wind project in Bahia.

EGPB currently operates 264MW of wind capacity and secured a further 172MW of wind, as well as 103MW of PV capacity through public tenders in the state.

Enel’s Brazilian subsidiary currently has a total installed capacity of 506MW, of which 401MW comes from wind, 12MW from PV solar and 93MW from hydro.

Currently, Enel operates 708 plants in 16 countries with a generation mix that includes wind, solar, hydro, geothermal and biomass.
