Power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) has commissioned a 520MW power generating unit at the Vizag Thermal Power Project in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, a state in India.
The coal-based unit is one of the two units to be installed at the 1040MW project being developed for Hinduja National Power Company (HNPCL), on the coast of the Bay of Bengal.

Bhel had won the project on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis. The second unit is in advanced stages of construction.
The thermal power generating project was affected by the Hudhud cyclone in 2014, following which the Indian firm had to carry out restoration works at the site.
Bhel has also recently won two other orders for supercritical thermal power projects in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The firm will be responsible for delivering a single 800MW unit at the Dr Narla Tata Rao thermal power station (Dr NTTPS) stage-V project for Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO).

By GlobalDataThe other order will see the firm supply one 800MW unit for Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company (APPDCL), which will be installed at the Krishnapatnam supercritical thermal power project in the state.
Bhel has already turned 5,010MW of power plants operational in the Indian utility sector, it said.
Earlier in the month, the firm has commissioned a 600MW coal-fired unit at the Kakatiya Thermal Power Project (TPP) in the Indian state of Telengana.
