Southern Power, a subsidiary unit under American energy firm Southern Company, has fully commissioned the 299MW Kay wind power plant in Oklahoma, US.
The facility is located in Kay county and is supported with 20-year long power purchase agreements with Westar Energy in Kansas, and Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) in Oklahoma.

While Westar Energy has signed up for around 199MW of the project’s energy output, the remaining has been contracted by GRDA.
The power plant has been developed by Apex Clean Energy, which will also be responsible for its operations and maintenance.
Blattner Energy was appointed as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project, which is the first wind energy project for Southern Power.
Southern Power president and chief executive officer Oscar C. Harper said: "Renewables remain a central focus as we continue developing sustainable energy solutions through projects that align with Southern Power’s conservative business model."

By GlobalDataThe facility is equipped with 130 Siemens’ wind turbines and has the capacity to electrify around 100,000 average households in the country.
Southern Power has also acquired another 150MW wind facility in Grant County, Oklahoma, it said.
Construction works for the project will feature 66 Siemens’ wind turbines and are expected to be completed in 2016.
