Chile’s National Energy Commission (CNE) has awarded a contract to Acciona Energía for development of 255MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind farms in the country.
Under the terms of the CNE tender, Acciona is to offer an annual supply of 600GW renewable energy to Chile’s power distributors operating in the Central Interconnected System (SIC).

The energy supply contracts will start in 2018, and will extend for 15 years until 2032.
The installations will have a combined generation capacity of 255MW. Acciona is likely to invest approximately $500m to set up the facilities.
As well as supplying sufficient renewable energy to power around 300,000 homes in Chile, the 600GWh deal will also reduce annual CO2 emission by 576,000t.
Acciona Energía CEO Rafael Mateo said: "It is a very positive outcome that will strengthen our position in Chile, and allow us to make a significant contribution to the country’s objective of achieving a more sustainable energy matrix."

By GlobalDataCurrently, the firm owns and operates 8,500MW of power across 15 countries. It is part of multiple wind and solar PV projects in Chile, either as owner or for other customers.
Acciona Energía’s total power production in 2013 was more than 22TWh, it said.
