Cavendish Fluor Partnership, a joint venture between Cavendish Nuclear and Fluor, has been chosen as a preferred bidder by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) to manage the decommissioning of 12 nuclear sites in the UK.
Fluor said that the partnership will begin a five-month contract transition phase following a ten-day standstill period.

Cavendish Nuclear is a wholly-owned unit of Babcock International Group plc.
The Cavendish Fluor Partnership will take ownership of the nuclear sites, owned by Magnox and Research Sites Restoration Limited (RSRL), as the parent body organisation from 1 September 2014.
The contract is anticipated to provide savings in excess of $1.6bn in the decommissioning programme for the 12 nuclear sites.
Fluor Government Group president Bruce Stanski said, "We are pleased our joint venture with Cavendish Nuclear has been selected as the preferred bidder for this prominent nuclear contract. We look forward to bringing our expertise gained from decades of managing and operating nuclear decommissioning sites."

Magnox is responsible for decommissioning of ten Magnox reactor sites located in England, Scotland and Wales, while RSRL is incharge for decommissioning two pioneering nuclear research centers at Harwell and Winfrith.
