Spanish energy company Iberdrola has announced a deal with telecommunications giant Vodafone to provide renewable energy across three countries.
The deal will see Iberdrola provide 410 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable solar photovoltaic (PV) energy to Vodafone’s operations in Spain, Portugal and Germany.

The news comes off the back of an agreement announced last week centred around Vodafone’s German operations, which will see the company take 100% of the energy produced at Iberdrola’s Boldekow PV plant. Boldekow’s production will total 56MW at peak output. Boldekow, Iberdrola’s first plant in Germany, is set to begin full-scale production by 2024.
Meanwhile, Vodafone’s Spanish operations will receive 280 GWh per year from Iberdrola’s Cedillo PV plant, and in Portugal it will take an unspecified amount from the Velilla PV park. Cedillo was commissioned in August 2022, while Velilla is still under construction with commission set for 2025.

The alliance covers all forms of heavy road transport, including commercial transport, and aims to decarbonise operations in the sector. It includes participants from all parts of the value chain, which will collaborate to position the group as a leader in electrification. It will also see the AEDIVE partners, which include Bosch, bp, Repsol and Huawei, formulate a road map to electrification that the companies will use to accelerate decarbonisation regulations.
