Titus Low Carbon Ventures has partnered with AB Energy to secure an initial supply of 673MW of fast-start, natural gas reciprocating engine generation for its Texas data centre power park projects in the US.

The first 400MW is set to be commissioned by the fourth quarter of 2027, with the remainder expected by mid-2028.

Titus’ power park model integrates behind-the-meter thermal generation with large-scale solar, wind, battery storage, and a high-voltage grid connection.

This setup is designed for AI and high-performance computing applications, focusing on reliability, stability during transient loads, and control over power costs, all while adhering to environmental, social and governance goals.

The multitechnology approach employed by Titus, which includes on-site economic dispatch and grid sales, has been projected to reduce the price of power to the data centre load by more than 70% compared to grid-only connected parks.

Titus president Jeff Ferguson said: “Partnering with Gruppo AB gives Titus a thermal generation solution that delivers firm flexible power and – when deployed at our renewable sites – a clear pathway to the cleanest, lowest power cost data centre campuses in the US.”

As per the deal, AB Energy will supply a maximum of 202 Ecomax 33 preassembled reciprocating units that utilise Jenbacher J620 engines.

The modular blocks of the units allow for parallel installation and commissioning, which supports staged campus energisation starting in mid-2027.

Each block is designed for quick start, fast ramping, and low heat rate power with superior emissions controls that meet stringent air standards.

The system is intended for Island-mode operation with battery energy storage systems and to operate behind-the-meter alongside Titus’ solar and wind assets.

This creates a fully redundant power envelope that reduces time-to-power, hedges spot volatility, and delivers firm capacity while adhering to recent regulatory changes in Texas.

AB North America general manager Giuseppe Fiorella said: “Our Ecomax 33 power plants powered by Jenbacher J620 engines are built for mission-critical sites and rapid deployment.

“This collaboration represents one further step for the AB’s growth in the US, a market where we are committed to deliver reliable, sustainable, and efficient energy solutions, and where we are strengthening our presence with the upcoming opening of our new US headquarters in the Houston area.”

AB Energy and Titus are considering further tranches to extend support to additional campuses, with the intention of expanding to a multi-gigawatt scale over the coming years.

Titus is currently in discussions with potential tenants for the data centre sites, and subsequent supply tranches are expected to be in line with multicampus tenant commitments.

PEI Global Partners is acting as the sole financial advisor to Titus, offering strategic support on capital raising initiatives.
