The group currently has over 11GW of capacity either operational or under construction, spanning solar, wind, and battery projects.

Meta plans to acquire the entire output of the solar farm to power its data centre operations in the US.

The Swenson Ranch solar farm is set to deliver considerable economic advantages to local communities, including the creation of 350 skilled jobs during its construction and contribution of approximately $160m in local tax revenues throughout its operational lifespan.

This agreement will increase the total capacity of renewable PPAs between ENGIE and Meta to over 1.3GW, across four major renewable projects in Texas.

ENGIE Renewable & Flexible Power senior executive vice-president Paulo Almirante said: “This project marks an important step forward in the partnership between our two companies and their shared desire to promote a sustainable and competitive energy model.

“It fully illustrates ENGIE’s ability to design and deliver large-scale renewable projects, efficiently mobilising the entire local value chain. Working with data centres and industrial customers, we are a reliable partner that brings competitive energy solutions tailored to their needs.”

ENGIE’s strategy includes accelerating the rollout of PPAs globally, with these contracts serving as a tool for supporting customers in their decarbonisation efforts.

By securing 4.3GW of renewable PPAs by 2024, ENGIE reaffirmed its position in the global market, especially in the US, where the demand for renewable energies continues to surge, according to the company.

This May, NHOA Energy, in collaboration with ENGIE, commenced construction on a 400MWh battery energy storage system in Beveren, Belgium.
