Tallgrass has confirmed the delivery location of the first two M501JAC gas turbines from Mitsubishi Power Americas, advancing phase one of its Cheyenne Power Hub in south-east Wyoming.
In the initial phase, two turbines will be delivered to generate around 1.15GW of power, utilising natural gas from Tallgrass’ Rockies Express Pipeline.

Installation of components for the first M501JAC turbine unit is due to commence as early as July.
The Cheyenne Power Hub, situated in the Switchgrass Industrial Park, involves an investment exceeding $7bn and aims to create more than 100 long-term jobs locally.
Dedicated power supplied to a large-scale data centre will avoid burdening the existing electricity grid with additional demand, safeguarding local ratepayers from associated costs.
Designed to minimise impacts on the community, the hub will also feature a grid interconnection.
Mitsubishi Power Americas president and CEO Bill Newsom said: “This milestone reflects the strength of collaboration between Tallgrass and Mitsubishi Power to deliver reliable, scalable power where it is needed most.
“By combining advanced turbine technology with existing pipeline and storage assets, the Cheyenne Power Hub is purpose-built to support critical digital infrastructure while positioning Wyoming for long-term economic growth.”
The decision to include a grid interconnection will allow the project to facilitate the integration of future renewable energy sources.
Its location near Tallgrass’ Trailblazer project, a major carbon capture and sequestration initiative in the US, positions the Cheyenne Power Hub to enhance its decarbonisation efforts.
Tallgrass executive vice-president, chief financial officer and chief investment officer Gary Watkins said: “We are grateful to Governor Gordon for his leadership in helping us reach this milestone and proud to bring these assets to Wyoming.
“This investment reflects our long-term commitment to Wyoming and will create multi-generational jobs and opportunities for communities across the state.”
