Innova Solar Colombia (ISC) has announced plans to build the first floating photovoltaic (PV) power project on Isla de Providencia, San Andrés.
As part of the project, ISC will install a 74kWp floating solar PV system on the Fresh Water Bay dam.

The project is set to enter commercial operations before the end of this year. It was selected for a financing award by Tillväxtverket, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.
Upon completion, the solarpower plant will be transferred to the municipality of Providencia.
Innova managing partner Mukesh Prasad said: “This will be an innovative and pioneering project on the islands that will demonstrate the viability and potential scaling of the technology in Colombia and other countries in the region.
“This is an example on how the public sector and private sector can successfully collaborate to develop projects which are sustainable socially, environmentally and financially. We are very pleased to have the support of the Swedish Government in this initiative.”

By GlobalDataCiel & Terre (C&T) will serve as the technological partner in the initiative and supply its industrialised water-based PV concept HYDRELIO.
Innova and C&T signed an agreement in 2017 for the development of floating solar projects in Colombia.
Ciel & Terre Sales international director Eva Pauly-Bowles said: “This will be our second project in Colombia. This project is special, because it is located in an area that has been declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.”
