Overall, Austria’s hydropower generation capacity grew by a CAGR of 1% from 2010 to 2021, to reach 14,605MW, and generation grew by a CAGR of 0.1% to reach 36,116GWh in 2021.

Installed capacity is forecast to increase by 853MW from 2022 to 2035, at which point hydropower is expected to account for 31% of total installed generation capacity. Large hydropower capacity rose from 6,983MW in 2010 to 7,589MW in 2021 at a CAGR of 0.76%. It is expected that large hydropower will reach 7,682MW by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 0.09% during 2021-2035. Pumped hydropower capacity was 5,671MW in 2021 and it is expected to reach 6,405MW by the end of 2035. Small hydropower capacity is expected to be 1,370MW by the end of 2035.
