The top five companies accounted for 27% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that ABB filed the most robotics patents within the power industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 31 robotics-related patents in the quarter, compared with 40 in the previous quarter. It was followed by State Grid Corporation of China with 23 robotics patent filings, China Southern Power Grid (23 filings), and Tesla (9 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 46% share of total patent filings
The largest share of robotics related patent filings in the power industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 46%, followed by the US (21%) and Australia (3%). The share represented by China was 27% lower than the 73% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
