Description

The project is being developed by Power Construction Corporation of China and Uganda Electricity Generation. The project is currently owned by Uganda Electricity Generation with a stake of 100%.

Karuma is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 79.87 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project will be 70m and 59.83m respectively. The project is expected to generate 4,309.33 GWh of electricity.

The project construction is expected to commence from 2013. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2023.

Sinohydro is expected to render engineering procurement construction services for the hydro power project.

GE Renewable Energy will be the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The project consists of 6 units of Francis turbines, each with 100MW nameplate capacity.
