A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11926910B2) discloses an innovative offshore wind turbine design that incorporates an electrolytic unit powered by the generator to produce hydrogen from an input fluid. The turbine includes a fluid supply assembly with a cleaning unit, comprising a pump and a nozzle, to clean build-up formed along the fluid connection or at the fluid inlet. The cleaning process is activated when the pressure needed for a specific flow rate of the input fluid exceeds a predetermined value, and it can be automatically triggered by a control unit. Additionally, a cleaning fluid, desalinated water from the electrolytic unit's desalination unit, is used for cleaning the build-up.

Furthermore, the patent also includes claims related to the arrangement of the cleaning unit, pump, and storage tank within the offshore wind turbine structure. The cleaning unit can be located at the housing of the pump or the inner wall of the fluid connection. The storage tank for the input fluid can be positioned on or inside the tower or foundation of the turbine. The fluid inlet, through which the input fluid is transported to the electrolytic unit, can be an opening in the foundation or tower. Additionally, the fluid supply assembly comprises a flexible hose submerged under the water level and a hose reel for winding the hose. A method for cleaning the fluid connection of the offshore wind turbine is also outlined, involving pumping a cleaning fluid to the nozzle of the cleaning unit and spraying it to clean the build-up formed along the area proximate to the nozzle.
