Agios Georgios, Greece

Agios Georgios is a 460MW hydro power project. It is planned on Kastraki Lake river/basin in Central Greece, Greece. The project is currently in permitting stage. It will be developed in single phase. The project construction is likely to commence in 2021 and is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2024.

Description

The project is being developed and currently owned by Terna Energy.

Agios Georgios is a pumped storage project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 5 million cubic meter. The gross head of the project will be 242.35m. The penstock diameter will be 6.7m. The project is expected to generate 552 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $1,031.09m.

The hydro power project consists of 4 units of francis turbines.

Development Status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2021. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2024.
