Ambuklao, Philippines

Ambuklao is a 104.55MW hydro power project. It is located on Agno river/basin in Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 1950 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1956.

The project was developed by Guy F. Atkinson Construction. The project is co-owned by Aboitiz Power and SN Power, with their respective ownership stake of 50% each.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 327 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project are 179.35m and 154.3m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 3 in number. The penstock diameter is 3.4m. Ambuklao underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 2008-2011. The project generated 332 GWh of electricity.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 1950 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1956.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Philippine Electricity Market under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors Involved

Andritz Hydro was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 3 units of francis turbines, each with 35.38MW nameplate capacity.

General Electric supplied 3 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 27.8 MVA.
