Asia-Pacific power industry contracts in April 2020: India leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, India led the activity in April 2020 with 17 contracts and a share of 25.4%, up 11.5% over the previous month and down 23% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by China with 17 contracts and a share of 25.4% and Japan with nine contracts and a share of 13.4% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 22 contracts, followed by China with 11 and Australia with seven contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in April 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 26 contracts and a 42.6% share, followed by wind with 20 contracts and a 32.8% share and thermal with eight contracts and a 13.1% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in April 2020, with 31 contracts, followed by Power Plant (25) and Electricity Procurement (6).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 32 contracts and a 47.8% share
  2. Project Implementation: 22 contracts and a 32.8% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: six contracts and a 9% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four contracts and a 6% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: three contracts and a 4.5% share.

Power contracts in April 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. NHPC (India): 2,000MW from five contracts
  2. NTPC (India): 600MW from two contracts
  3. Luneng Group (China): 200MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. SB Energy (Japan): 600MW from one contract
  2. Axis Energy Ventures India Pvt (India): 400MW from one contract
  3. O2 Power Private (India): 380MW capacity from one contract.
