Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in January 2020: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in January 2020 with 272 tenders and a share of 60.2%, down 4.2% over the previous month and down 21% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by the Philippines with 77 tenders and a share of 17% and Bangladesh with 54 tenders and a share of 11.9% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 343 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 93 and the Philippines with 87 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in January 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 55 tenders and a 45.8% share, followed by solar with 53 tenders and a 44.2% share and hydro with seven tenders and a 5.8% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in January 2020, with 238 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (104) and Power Plant (62).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 239 tenders and a 52.9% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 132 tenders and a 29.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 72 tenders and a 15.9% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: seven tenders and a 1.5% share
  5. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 0.4% share.

Power tenders in January 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. Ministry of Economic Affairs (Taiwan) (Taiwan): 10,000MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,418MW from four tenders
  3. Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 1,000MW capacity from one tender.
