Asia-Pacific power industry tenders in July 2020: India leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, India led the activity in July 2020 with 259 tenders and a share of 63.8%, down 4.5% over the previous month and down 18% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Pakistan with 29 tenders and a share of 7.1% and Bangladesh with 27 tenders and a share of 6.7% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, India held the top spot with 317 tenders, followed by Bangladesh with 78 and the Philippines with 75 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in July 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 87 tenders and a 64.9% share, followed by thermal with 29 tenders and a 21.6% share and hydro with 17 tenders and a 12.7% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Asia-Pacific as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in July 2020, with 148 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (134) and Power Plant (91).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 186 tenders and a 45.8% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 139 tenders and a 34.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 62 tenders and a 15.3% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 18 tenders and a 4.4% share
  5. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.2% share.

Power tenders in July 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Asia-Pacific were:

  1. NSW Coalition State Government: 8,000MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,090MW from three tenders
  3. Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (India) and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 100MW capacity from one tender.
