Chucas is a 50MW hydro power project. It is located on Rio Grande de San Ramon river/basin in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2011 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2016.

Description

The project was developed by Enel and is currently owned by Enel Green Power with a stake of 100%.

Chucas is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 14.7 million cubic meter. The net head of the project is 48.7m. The penstock length is 6.5m. The project generated 219 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $107m.

The hydro power project consists of 2 turbines, each with 25.6MW nameplate capacity.

The project has 2 electric generators installed at the site. The generator capacity is 35 MVA.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 2011 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2016.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad under a power purchase agreement for a period of 20 years.
