Description

Comanche Peak 1 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Westinghouse Electric, the main contractor for the project.

The 1,259MW reactor is owned and operated by Luminant Generation. The company has a stake of 100%.

The PWR reactor generates 9,325.62GWh/annum of electricity. It features 193 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 53 in number.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Dec, 1974 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Aug, 1990.

Contractors involved

Siemens was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company provided 1 steam turbine for the project. Gibbs & hill was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by GE Power. The reactor vessel has been supplied by Combustion Engineering. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA 533 B/SA 508). The civil works were carried out by Brown & Root.
